TCO’s environmental activities are focused on air protection, rational use of water resources, protection of subsoil and land, waste disposal and raising environmental awareness. The Company’s key environmental commitments include minimizing environmental emissions from its operations, increasing the environmental safety of operations and continuous improvement of its environmental performance. TCO conducts a comprehensive system of continuous environmental monitoring within its area of operations. Environmental monitoring includes atmospheric air, water and soil samples that are collected and analyzed in TCO’s environmental laboratory against specified thresholds and background conditions to track and proactively manage potential impacts on the environment.
TCO’s environmental laboratory is certified and has been operating since 2016 equipped with state-of-the-art technology and equipment.
In 2020-2021, the greening was completed for the land area of 3 ha:
Above 2400 tree transplants have been planted.
The first area of 1 ha is located in front of the clinic in Geolog village at the entry to Atyrau along the central highway Atyrau-Dossor.
The planting was done in the fall of 2020, and watering within the irrigation season in 2021.
The area was handed over to Akimat of Atyrau city under the Act in the fall of 2021.
The second area of 1 ha is in Samal microdistrict.
The planting was completed in spring 2021, and watering within the irrigation season in 2021.
The area was handed over to Atyrau Akimat under the Act in the fall of 2021.
The third area of 1 ha is also located in Samal microdistrict, and the planting was completed in the fall of 2021. Watering will be provided within the irrigation season in 2022. Then the area will be handed over to Atyrau Akimat in the fall of 2022.
It is also planned to complete additional planting in 2 ha area in Samal microdistrict in 2022.
Tengizchevroil’s (TCO) social investment initiatives are aimed at stimulating and revealing the limitless potential of each resident and communities of Atyrau Oblast. TCO strives to expand opportunities for people by ensuring accessibility and improvement of health, education and economic development systems.
In 2019, TCO provided sponsorship to Zhylyoi district for purchase of 50 urban passenger buses of the ANKAI brand. The purchased buses are specially equipped with mechanical ramps for transporting people with disabilities and children in wheelchairs, meet all technical standards and modern requirements for motor transport.So, since the beginning of the pandemic, TCO has allocated over $18 million (7.7 billion tenge) to combat coronavirus, support the population and purchase medical equipment and supplies in Atyrau Oblast. In addition, a project was launched in December 2021, which made it possible to donate medical equipment totaling $6.2 million to 14 hospitals in Atyrau city and the region.
